STOODIO’s story – How we became us
STOODIO was founded in spring 2016 to solve a critical gap in Finland’s e-commerce market: no photography studio could deliver high-quality, consistent product images and videos with the speed, simplicity, and affordability that online stores needed to compete.
Small online stores and independent retailers in Finland faced a challenge: how to compete with the product photography quality of international giants like Zalando and Macy’s without breaking the bank.

The Beginning: Three Founders, One Vision
Richard, an experienced technical and business professional with international expertise, Riitta, a skilled stylist trained in Helsinki’s top boutiques and shops, and Heka, a sales industry veteran who had repeatedly faced the challenge of sourcing quality product images—together, we knew we had the right team to solve a real problem.
Finding the Solution: Automated Photography
We discovered StyleShoots and Orbitvu, pioneers in automated photography technology. Their innovative systems gave us the solution we’d been searching for. In fall 2016, we opened STOODIO with 3 team members and 2 machines.
2016: Starting Humble in Telakkaranta
True to the spirit of starting small, we launched in the historic Machine Factory building in Telakkaranta. The industrial space had character—and challenges. No running water or toilets at first! But this raw, creative environment was perfect for firing up our vision and meeting our first brand partners.
2017: Moving to Lauttasaari
After a year of non-stop shooting and retouching, we outgrew our first space. We moved to Lauttasaari—a location that felt enormous at the time. So much space, we even considered subletting!

Today: Finland’s Largest Fashion Photography Studio
The Lauttasaari studio gave us room to expand our capabilities and push creative boundaries. Our talented photography team now delivers exceptional imagery across two studio floors, combining cutting-edge automated technology with traditional photography expertise.
From our early days in Telakkaranta to becoming Finland’s largest fashion photo studio, our journey proves that big things truly do have small beginnings.
Over 50,000 product images and videos produced annually. Nearly 300 brand partners. A team of 12 international specialists. And we’re still growing.
Our team has grown to 12 professionals—and we’re still expanding. What makes us different? We’re highly international and deeply specialized: 3 skilled photographers, 3 expert retouchers, 3 stylists with fashion and visual merchandising expertise, a clothing preparation specialist, and a sales and logistics coordinator. Richard orchestrates it all, ensuring flawless processes and exceptional results.
STOODIO is now a 12-person team spanning two studio floors—Finland’s largest fashion photography studio.
We deliver 50,000+ finished product images and videos each year to online stores, retailers, department stores, importers, manufacturers, and designers. With 6 state-of-the-art automated machines and a full traditional photography studio, we’ve come far in 9 years.
